Check if the voltage indicated on the appliance corresponds to the local mains voltage before you connect the appliance. Only connect the appliance to an earthed wall socket.Always ensure the plug is inserted firmly into the socket. If the mains cord is damaged, it must be replaced by Philips, a service centre authorised by Philips or similarly qualified persons in order to avoid a hazard. Never immerse the housing in water, nor rinse it under the tap. Make sure the heating plate, magnetic switch and inner pot are clean and dry before switching the rice cooker on. Do not switch the rice cooker on without having inserted the inner bowl. Always unplug the rice cooker and let it cool down before cleaning it. Do not place the inner pot directly over an open flame for cooking. Do not obstruct the steam vent with any article, e.g. a piece of cloth, during operation. Keep the appliance out of the reach of children when you use it. Do not let the mains cord hang over the edge of the table or worktop on which the appliance is standing. This appliance is intended for household use only. If the appliance is used improperly or for (semi-)professional purposes or if it is used in a way that is not in accordance with these instructions for use, the guarantee will become invalid and Philips will not accept liability for any damage caused. Place the rice cooker on a level surface. The accessible surfaces may become hot when the appliance is in operation. Before first use Clean the separate parts of the rice cooker thoroughly before using the appliance for the first time (see chapter 'Cleaning'). Make sure all parts are completely dry before you start using the appliance. ENGLISH Using the appliance Cooking rice 1 Measure the rice using the measuring cup provided (fig. 1). Each cup of uncooked rice normally gives 2 bowls of cooked rice. Do not exceed the quantities indicated in the table below. Type HD4500 HD4501 HD4502 HD4503 Minimum and maximum capacity 1-5.5 cups 2-8 cups 3-10 cups 5-15 cups 7 2 Wash the rice thoroughly. 3 Add water to the level indicated on the scale inside the pot that corresponds to the number of cups of rice used.Then smooth the rice surface (fig. 2). For instance, if you cook 4 cups of rice, add water up to the 4-cup level indicated on the scale. B The level marked inside the pot is just an indication; you can always adjust the water level for different types of rice and your own preference. 4 Put the inner pot in the rice cooker. Check if the inner pot is in proper contact with the heating plate. Make sure that the outside of the inner pot is dry and clean and that there is no foreign residue on the heating plate or the magnetic switch. 5 Put the lid on the rice cooker and put the plug in the wall socket. The keep-warm light goes on. 6 Press the control lever down to start the cooking process (fig. 3). The cook light goes on. When the cooking process is finished, the cook light goes out and the keep-warm light goes on automatically (fig. 4). 7 Remove the lid and stir the rice (fig. 5). For the best results, do this just after the keep-warm light has gone on.Then put the lid firmly onto the cooker to continue the keep-warm function. Stirring the rice allows excess steam to escape.This will give fluffier rice. Steaming (HD4502 only) The steaming function may only be used in combination with the rice-cooking function (see section 'Rice cooking'). 1 Follow steps 1 to 6 in section 'Rice cooking'.When measuring the rice, make sure there is enough room left for the steam tray. 2 Put the food to be steamed on a plate or in the steam tray. To ensure even steaming, the food should be spread out evenly and should not be piled up. 3 Put the steam tray in the inner pot on top of the rice (fig. 6). 4 If you are using a separate plate, put it in the steam tray. 5 Put the lid firmly onto the rice cooker. 6 Follow steps 7 and 8 in section 'Rice cooking'. The steamed food will be ready when the rice-cooking process is finished. 8 ENGLISH 7 Remove the lid and carefully remove the steamed food from the plate or steam tray. Use a kitchen glove or cloth, as the plate and steam tray will be very hot. Beware of the hot steam. Cleaning Wait until the rice cooker has cooled down sufficiently. 1 Unplug the rice cooker. 2 Take the steam tray and the inner pot out of the main body of the appliance. Soak the inner pot in lukewarm water for a few minutes. 3 Clean the lid, inner pot, steam tray (HD4502 only) and rice scoop with a sponge or a cloth in hot soapy water. Do not use abrasive cleaning agents, scourers or metal utensils to clean the inner pot as these will damage the surface of the pot. 4 Use only a damp cloth to wipe the outside and inside of the main body of the rice cooker. Never immerse the main body in water.Wipe the heating plate with a dry cloth. Problem The cook light does not go on. Possible cause There is a connection problem. Solution Check if the rice cooker is connected to the mains and if the plug is inserted firmly into the wall socket. Contact your nearest Philips dealer. Contact your nearest Philips dealer. The light is defective. The keep-warm light does not go on when the cooking process is finished. The rice is not cooked. The light is defective. Not enough water has been added. The cooking mode has not been activated. The inner pot is not in good contact with the heating plate. The heating element is damaged. Add water according to the scale on the inside of the inner pot (see chapter 'Using the appliance'). Push the control lever down to start the cooking process. Make sure that there is no foreign residue on the heating plate or on the magnetic switch. Contact your nearest Philips dealer. Distribute the food evenly and do not steam too much food at one time. Jangan halang bolong stim dengan apa-apa barang, seperti kain, semasa perkakas beroperasi. Jauhkan perkakas daripada capaian kanak-kanak apabila anda menggunakannya. Jangan biarkan kord sesalur tergantung melepasi pinggir meja atau permukaan kerja tempat perkakas diletakkan. Perkakas ini dimaksudkan hanya untuk kegunaan di rumah sahaja. Jika perkakas tidak digunakan dengan betul atau digunakan untuk tujuan (separa) profesional atau jika ia tidak digunakan menurut arahan penggunaan ini, jaminan akan terbatal dan Philips tidak akan bertanggungjawab terhadap apa-apa kerosakan yang menjadi akibat. Setiap cawan beras biasanya memberikan 2 mangkuk nasi. Jangan lebihi kuantiti yang ditunjukkan di dalam jadual di bawah. Lampu simpan panas menyala. 6 Tekan turun tuil kawalan untuk memulakan proses memasak (rajah 3). Lampu masak menyala. Apabila selesai proses memasak, lampu masak padam dan lampu simpan panas menyala secara automatik (rajah 4). 7 Bukakan tudung dan gaulkan nasi (rajah 5). Untuk mendapatkan hasil terbaik, lakukan ini sebaik sahaja lampu simpan panas menyala. Kemudian tudungkan periuk dengan rapi untuk meneruskan fungsi simpan panas. Dengan menggaulka nasi, stim yang berlebihan akan dibebeskan. Ini memberikan nasi yang lebih gebu. Mengukus (HD4502 sahaja) Fungsi mengukus hanya boleh digunakan bersama-sama fungsi memasak nasi (lihat bahagian 'Memasak nasi'). 1 Ikuti langkah 1 hingga 6 bahagian 'Memasak nasi'.Apabila menyukat beras, pastikan ruang secukupnya ditinggalkan untuk dulang kukus. 2 Letakkan makanan yang hendak dikukus di atas pinggan atau dulang kukus. Untuk memastikan pengukusan yang sekata, makanan hendaklah diletakkan dengan sekata dan tidak dilonggokkan. 3 Masukkan dulang kukus ke dalam periuk dalam di atas beras (rajah 6). BAHASA MELAYU 11 4 Jika anda menggunakan pinggan yang berasingan, masukkannya ke dalam dulang kukus. 5 Letakkan tudung dengan rapi ke atas periuk pemasak nasi. 6 Ikuti langkah 7 dan 8 bahagian 'Memasak nasi'. Gunakan sarung tangan ketuhar atau kain, kerana pinggan dan dulang kukus pada ketika ini sangat panas. Awas terhadap stim panas. Membersihkan Tunggu sehingga periuk pemasak nasi sejuk secukupnya. 1 Cabutkan plag periuk pemasak nasi. 2 Keluarkan dulang kukus dan periuk dalam dari jasad utama perkakas. Rendamkan periuk dalam di dalam air suam selama beberapa minit. 3 Bersihkan tudung, periuk dalam, dulang kukus (HD4502 sahaja) dan senduk nasi dengan span atau kain dan air panas bersabun. Jangan gunakan agen pembersih yang melelas, kain penyental atau alatan logam untuk membersihkan periuk dalam kerana ini akan merosakkan permukaan periuk. 4 Gunakan hanya kain yang lembap untuk mengesat permukaan luar dan dalam jasad utama periuk pemasak nasi.
